GRIMNER GREYHOUNDS

grimner's black box.

Since we now have many of these lovely boxes across the united states.

I thought it would be appropriate to list some frequently asked questions.

1. " I ran my clip into the machine and now  I can not find the end of the line?

A. Start digging, With some luck you will find the end. Sorry no quick fixes for this one! We do not recommend tying the lure directly to the line because of safety issues. The clip is intended to release the lure when the dog catches it.  I have had a box drug around for 10 minutes by the dogs before we started using the clip.  If you need to replace the clip make sure to get one with a cover as this will drastically decrease the drag on the ground.

2. I just got the machine and the battery does not seem to last?

A: The battery needs to be conditioned. You will not realize the full capacity of the battery until you have exhausted the power and recharged it four times.  It is important to do this otherwise the battery can develop memory and not reach its full potential.  Normal battery voltage in fully charged condition is 12.9V - 13.5 V.

3.  The motor spins ok but reel is slow or does not retrieve at all?

A:  What you probably are experiencing is the "star drag" that has worked its way loose.  If the reel is still taking up line, grab the spool with your fingers and turn the star drag towards you when you are facing the box. Tighten it up and retry. If the reel is not retrieving any line you will need to get some pliers and grab the coupling (to the left of the star ) and then tighten the star drag. Retry again.

4.  My trigger wire got caught and now  the machine does not work?

A: See point 3  and check the condition of the trigger wire, if the shielding has been stripped and wires are exposed then contact me.  You can put electrical tape over the bare wire to get your line in.  I highly recommend that you replace any damaged wiring immediately or you run the risk of electric shock.

5.  My battery charges in 3 minutes?

A: See point 1.  As the battery needs to be conditioned, run it again until motors slows down, recharge, repeat this 4 times. you will notice that the charging time will get longer and longer.

6. What kind of charger should i use?

A: I highly recommend a fully automatic charger. This way you can leave the battery unattended and don't have to worry about it exploding. Always use the low setting (2 amps normally) .  Any name brand is sufficient , you could spend $100 if you like but I find that you can get decent ones for around $20-$25.

7.  My line turned into a birds nest, what kind of replacement do I need?

A:  you can use any line of your choice but we highly recommend that you use a braided line as this will have better response and longer life.  My R&D box is still running with its original line as wear should be very minimal, it is over 2.5 years old.   Also remember that thicker line will mean less yardage .  You can always get replacement line from us!

8. My line seems to spool up on one side of the reel?

A:  Make sure you "center" the box to the line before you retrieve. this will ensure correct distribution of the line on the spool.
